How to Clear My Credit for Free

How to Clear My Credit for Free

Cleaning up your credit when it is poor may seem impossible to some people but it can be done. Some people believe that your credit can only be helped by credit-repair agencies but the truth is that you can do the same thing they do and it will not cost you anything. Staying on top of your credit report is important so that you will be able to obtain financing and rates that you deserve in the future.

Instructions

    1

Request copies of all your credit reports from the three different credit reporting agencies--- Experian, TransUnion and Equifax. You can do this by going online to annualcreditreport.com and requesting free copies each and every year. You will be able to view the reports instantly and print them out if you would like to look at them in detail. It is advisable to print them out so that you can use copies to challenge inaccurate information.

    2

Look over your credit report and check for any errors on them. There may be errors that have been reported from your creditors that could be bringing your score down significantly. If you find any of these errors, make sure that you dispute them to get them off your record so that you can get the credit you deserve in the future.

    3

Dispute any errors that you may find on your credit report. You can do this by filling out a dispute report online at the credit reporting agency website or sending a letter explaining the error and requesting that it be removed. The agency can take up to thirty days to respond to your request. Errors can range from fraudulent reports to charges against someone with a similar name to simple typos.

    4

Obtain a small personal loan or a secured credit card to start building new credit. Potential lenders even look at your banking history to see if you have had a bank account for a length of time. You may have had bad credit in the past but it is important to start building better credit right away to make the past credit history less important to potential lenders.

    5

Pay all of your bills on time every month. As simple as this may sound, it is one of the most important things you can do to clear your credit. You may have had some past issues but this will help get rid of the past. It will show lenders that you can manage your money properly. If you are still working on past debt, talk to collection agencies to see if you can work out a payment plan that you can afford to get rid of the past debt more quickly.
